Center For Disease Control And Prevention (CDC)

Health and safety topics in a variety of areas.

Federal Emergency Management Agency Disaster Information (FEMA)

FEMA has information about disaster preparedness, survivor assistance, response, topics, and news.

Red Cross Disaster Services

American Red Cross Disaster Relief site.  Lots of great information on how you can join the movement.

Santa Clara County Public Health

Local public health information, warnings, and news

USAID

Collects and distributes data about disasters and relief efforts.  Accept donations for international disaster relief.

Education Agencies Links

California Department Of Education (CDE)

The CDE collects and distributes data and information on California public schools, acts as an adviser to school districts and county offices of education, and monitors state and federal education programs. The State Superintendent for Public Instruction, a non-partisan elected position is the Chief Executive Officer of the CDE.

The CDE is also responsible for the California Reading List (CRL).  This is a list of books with varying difficulties that are tailored to each student.  Here is a link to the site.

California educators have joined a national movement to adopt common standards and assessments for English Language Arts and Mathematics.  This program is called Common Core Standards.  Here is a link to a site with details on the movement.

California Education Code

State law governing public schools, school districts, and county offices of education are generally found in the Education Code. (Some sections of the Code apply to community colleges as well.) Bills enacted by state lawmakers generally amend, add, or repeal sections of the Education Code.

California State Board Of Education (SBE)

The State Board of Education (SBE) is the governing body that oversees the implementation of laws passed by the Legislature affecting public schools in California. Members are appointed by the Governor, and approved by the Senate, for four-year terms.  Here is a link to Content Standard at the SBE.

Santa Clara County Of Education (SCCOE)

The SCCOE provides instructional, administrative, human resources, business and technical support services to the county’s 32 school districts.  SCCOE programs that provide direct instruction include Special Education, Head Start, Environmental Education, Regional Occupational Programs and Alternative Schools. An additional program, Migrant Education, supports the special needs of migratory children.  This site is for students, parents, school districts, community agencies and businesses.

Santa Clara Unified School District (SCUSD)

United States Department Of Education

The U.S. Department of Education is the agency of the federal government that establishes policy for administers and coordinates most federal assistance to education.  At this URL you can subscribe to news feeds for the Department Of Education.

Chris Glover's Parent Education Handouts

The California Children and Families Act of 1998 is designed to provide, on a community-by-community basis, all children prenatal to five years of age with a comprehensive, integrated system of early childhood development services. First 5 California, as the Commission is commonly known, focuses on integrating health care, quality childcare, parent education, and effective intervention programs for families at risk.
